TCS Tracking Glossary: Terms Explained
Quick Answer
Simple meanings for the words you see around a TCS parcel: CN, size-based weight, RedBox, RTS and the names of special services. Status names have their own page in the status meanings guide.
Consignment Number (CN)
The tracking number TCS gives your parcel when it is booked, printed under the barcode on your receipt. Most are 12 digits. Our tracker searches by this number, not by a shop order number.
Chargeable Weight
The higher of two weights: what the parcel weighs on the scale, or a weight worked out from its size. See the parcel rates guide for the formula.
Red Box
TCS’s fixed-price boxes in 8 sizes, from 1 kg to 25 kg. You pay by box size, not by weight.
Overnight Express / Overland Express
Two main TCS services: Overnight Express for faster delivery between cities, and Overland Express by road for heavier cargo that is less urgent.
Out for Delivery
A rider has your parcel on today’s delivery round. It tells you the day, not the exact time.
Returned to Shipper (RTS)
Returned to shipper. After failed delivery tries, the parcel goes back to the sender. You can often still stop it before it leaves your local station.
Written Claim
How to report a lost or damaged parcel. It must be done in writing within 30 days of TCS accepting the parcel, not 30 days from when you noticed the problem.
